Natural Alternative to Prescription Sleeping Pills

Many people prefer natural sleeping pills instead of prescription ones based upon Zolpidem (e.g. Ambien) because they believe there are less side-effects. The natural variety are usually based upon valerian (a herb) or melatonin, a hormone produced in humans and other animals that helps regulate sleep cycles (Melatrol uses both the natural hormone and the herb). The prescription drugs use a mild hypnotic that inhibits certain neurotransmitter activity in the brain. Sleep-walking and other side-effects have been reported with Ambien.

One of main reasons people prefer melatonin vs prescription pill is that there is less of a “hung over” feeling in the morning.

Thanks for the comments rednckwmn. I will tell you that you can find just melatonin alone a lot cheaper if want to give that a try; this product (melatrol) tries to distinguish itself with the herbal blend that goes along with the melatonin. Let me know how it works for you if you give it a try.
